Mysore

The weekend before last we had a very long, but very good Sunday visiting Mysore with Shravan. We left home at 6am, stopping for breakfast on the way. Mysore is about a 3 hour drive from Bangalore, so we had to get going early.

First stop was Tipu's summer palace in Srirangapatna about 10km outside Mysore. The inside is painted pretty much all over with murals of battles etc. but unfortunately you can't take pictures inside. We also stopped at Gumpas, the garden tomb of Tipu sultan and his father before continuing.

Next we went to Brindavan gardens which are next to the Krishna Raja Dam and were built at the same time as the dam. They are lit up at night and have a sound and music show but we'll have to do that next time.

After a quick trip to see St. Philomena's church we headed up to the Chamundi hills for a view over Mysore and to see the temple. We walked from about 1/2 way up.

Finally we went to the main attraction, Mysore Palace. The inside was pretty stunning, although I'm afraid you weren't allowed to take photos inside here either. The outside looked pretty good though and the reason for going on Sunday night was that they light up the outside on Sundays. The lights come on gradually over about 1/2 an hour, which makes for some pretty awesome pictures.

Mysore Palace, Ben and Shravan and a cow just chillin'!
It does make me chuckle how the cows will sit in the middle of the busiest street looking happy as larry and ignoring everyone. Just after I took this picture the others went to get some out of the car and a Chinese girl came right up to the cow and took a selfie with it, literally her head about 2 inches from it's head! The cows here aren't scary like the ones at home, but you wouldn't get me doing that!

Nearly lit up!

Full lights on!
It was a long day, we didn't get home until 11.30pm, but really good and well worth it!

Well, we are heading home tomorrow, so I best get on with packing. I guess I won't be back for a while, but I will add some photos of the wedding my Indian audience! :-)

Love to you all,

xKathryn
